Keep it fresh, local and legal
Most backyard fruit and veg needs no licence. Some products do, and you must hold the right one before listing them.
- Fresh fruit, veg & herbs: generally fine to sell when unprocessed and grown by you
- Eggs: in most states, selling eggs means registering or licensing with your state food authority, and eggs generally need to be stamped with your producer ID
- Honey: in most states and territories, beekeepers must be registered with their state agriculture or biosecurity department
- Jams, sauces, baked or cut produce: usually a food business notification or registration with your local council
- Meat: only from licensed businesses. Meat must be processed at a licensed abattoir and sold under the right licence from your state food authority. Home-killed meat can't be sold.
- Nurseries: list as a visit-in-store seller. Show your stock list and a photo gallery, and customers see prices in store.
- Not allowed: live animals, seafood, unpasteurised dairy, alcohol, plants or produce under biosecurity movement restrictions, or anything you didn't grow or make
This is a general guide, not legal advice. Rules change, so check with your state or territory food authority or your council if you're unsure. We may ask to see your licence before your listings go live.

What does it cost?
Nothing until June 2027: no listing fees and no commission. From June 2027, one active listing at a time is always free, so if you only sell the odd item you never pay. To list two or more items at once, backyard growers pay $6 a month ($60 a year) and businesses pay $19 a month ($190 a year). There's no commission, so you keep 100% of every sale, and there are no card fees on top. We'll remind you at least 30 days before any payment, and you can drop back to one free listing at any time.
Do I need an ABN?
Not to sell occasional backyard surplus. If you sell regularly as a business, you may need one. The ATO website explains when hobby selling becomes a business.
Is my home address public?
No. Buyers only see your general area. Your exact pickup address goes to a buyer once you confirm their reservation.
What if a buyer doesn't show up?
Mark the reservation as a no-show in the app. Repeat no-shows are flagged, and you can block any buyer.
Can I post videos?
Yes, and we encourage it. Short clips of your garden, a fresh pick or the chooks do brilliantly with buyers.
